Default 12V 300W-ish motor to drive a lawn sweeper

I'm considering upgrading my 1.2m wide lawn sweeper. It gets towed behind my ride on mower and is "powered" mechanically via the turning wheel on the sweeper itself. I'm thinking of disconnecting the mechanical gearing and attaching an electric motor. Then the sweeper will sweep the whole time at a constant speed instead of relying on the movement of the ride on mower.
I've seen an electric lawn sweeper unit online (that don't seem to exist anymore) and the motor is fused at 30A. I'm guessing an approximate 300W motor may be the constant power rating.
Anyone know of a supplier of such 12VDC motors in Perth (or Australia) that I could have a chat to?

I think I'd start by asking auto electricians, particularly those that do work on larger vehicles (trucks, road plant etc). 30A will need some reasonable sized wire though.

Maybe a 300w brushless motor that they use for modifying bikes to electric. Lots of torque and are speed variable.
No experience with this mob but worth a call.

Harry you will likely be limited by the output of the alternator on the mower, what is the mower/engine?
    300w/12v=25amps.
If you have a domestic sized ride-on with a manual pto blade engagement it will likely only have an alternator output of 3 amps, if it has an electric pto blade engagement then you might get 10 or 12 amps, if the mower is a larger commercial job you might get a 25amp alternator on it....might.
You need to work out what rpm you need and if required get the appropriate gear reduction motor from ebay or aliexpress, can you work out the torque required to determine the motor size? You might not require a 300w motor particularly if it is a gear reduction motor.

What about a 18v or 36v ryobi lawn mower motor and use a battery to power it. Then just use pulleys to reduce the speed.

    Hi Harry, Guys,

You guys may remember the Sinclair C5 ! A battery driven three wheel car.
It used two 12 volt car batteries in series to power a modified Hoover washing machine motor. It was quite capable of 20 MPH or so and would run for quite some time before needing a charge. Very much a collectors item now a days.

In my local scrapyard invalid carriages come up from time to time, often with batteries and electronics, could the motors from a scrap one of those do what you want.
    Best Regards:
    Baron J.

Thanks for the ideas so far. My Kohler 15HP engine's alternator (magneto) can only output about 3 amps. The battery is rated at 28AH but probably not designed for a 20 or 30amp load. I'm happy to try though. I figure it would only need to run for 30mins max when I use it so that should not stress the battery too much, even though it is only getting a 3A input while powering the lawn sweeper. It is kept fully charged via a solar panel when not in use.
I only have one local scrapyard but they really only deal in scrap metal and not scrap machines. A pity.
