I tend to use the HSS one more than the carbide as the HSS blade is thinner than the carbide.

1) you can resharpen them numerous times
2) if you have a bit of a dig in, the tip of the tool rotates down and away from the cut. (hopefully without tearing the tip off the blade)

I've got a couple of those rota drawer sets as well. very handy.

Those tangential parting tools work really well. I have a few blades and I had a large holder. Sold the holder and made myself a smaller one to fit my lathe.
Blackwoods still had the blades listed...

In the more effluent areas here the good stuff is usually furniture and/or towels, clothes etc etc and huge amounts of last years kids toys.

Wow. I've never seen anything like that over here (east coast) on bulk waste clean ups. Lucky you .
