The TPG needs to sit on top of the topslide...
The TPG needs to sit on top of the topslide (compound slide) to be able to do non-parallel grinding. Being able to rotate the TPG doesn’t achieve that

Yeah, there isn’t any spare material to take off the TPG mounting.
I also have a Myford ML7 lathe which is even more of a height issue, but at least I can bolt the TPG easily onto the cross... -
