I hope any of our Melbourne members have not been impacted too much by the quake.
It seemed quite high on the scale for an Aussie quake. I hope all our members and families are uninjured.

Hi Grahame, it was a good shaking here in Wodonga!
Did you feel it up your way?
No rumbles here. Anyway I would not be able to hear it.
The prevaling wind is blowing abnormally strong, its 30knots instead of the average of around 20 knots. It was like that since midnight.
The tin roofs on the houses nearby where rattling and there's wheelie bins head over all over the place. Luckily the garbo has been early.
No reports of fatalities or injury on the news last time I listened but its early yet! Fingers crossed.

Apparently some high end CNC machines have accelerometers in them so that should the machine be moved from where they were installed the machine controller will be locked out and require a service call from the manufacturer to unlock. This is to stop these high end machines ending up in countries with sanctions on them and potentially be used to make things like nuclear enrichment centrifuges. Apparently when there was an earthquake in New Zealand some years back it locked out the controllers as the machine thought it had been moved.
I think I recall we had to sign an EUD when we took commission of out new CNC lathe stating we wouldn’t use if to produce weapons of mass destruction
We had a good shake here in Werribee (about another 20-30km from Mansfield as the crow flies compared to Wodonga) but no obvious building damage - the level of the shake was quite surprising and enough to have the dishwater in the sink sloshing about a cm up and down immediately after.
We are on a concrete slab but my daughter just moved into a house on concrete stumps on a hillside in Bacchus Marsh and they had a lot more house shake than us.

Quite definite shaking here in ringwood. But no damage.
Was in a large online meeting, so we had instant reports from Berwick to Ballarat.
I told my twins we'd do something special for their birthday. 😉
Houses on hills and stumps suffer an "inverted pendulum" effect. I lived in Rabaul, PNG for five years, on top of a hill, in a house with long - four metres or so, concrete stumps..... exciting in earthquakes which were common.
We are in an old cottage on wooden stumps.
The shake went on for a bit but was relatively nice and gentle, and no noise.
Being a Kiwi originally I’ve experienced a fair few over the years, including one of the big ones in Christchurch (followed by by about 30 decent aftershocks through the night).
Dogs and wife got a bit sooky today, but no damage and not rough enough to spill my coffee or make me head for a doorway.

Hi Guys,
The news about the Earthquake hit the media early yesterday morning ! I hope that nobody got hurt and little damage occurred. Fortunately the UK doesn't suffer many Earthquakes, I only remember a couple.
The worst Earthquake that I recall was when we were touring through the mountains in Italy and had stopped the camper in a village Cemetery car park for lunch. My wife accused me of shaking the table before we realised it was an Earthquake. It didn't last very long, only a minute or so, but the amount of damage in the village we were in was quite high. Lots of collapsed walls, some small out buildings and part of a bridge onto the road. I don't know if anybody was hurt but there were very few people about to ask, mostly women.
Yep some of their executives spent time in jail for that. The other big one was the soviets got their hands on a 5axis Toshiba mill for making propellers during the cold war, through a 3rd party, I'm pretty sure Toshiba significantly scaled back their machine tool division after that.
