Hello,
although I spent most of my working life in industrial automation and electrical engineering, I have very fond memories of my metalwork training (lathe, mill, etc) when I was an apprentice in the early 80's.
Now that my son is in his apprenticeship (sparky), he has developed an interest in metalwork and we purchased a second hand Hafco AL336D lathe plus some TIG and Oxy equipment. I'm trying hard to recall the skills I learned nearly 40 years ago and with the assistance of youtube have found most the basics still lurking somewhere in the grey matter, that's why I feel I'm pretty much back at "Apprentice" level :).
So .... here I am, looking to tap into the knowledge of forums members and hoping that I might be able to contribute something useful in the future.
Other (less relevant) info:
I have lived in the Albury/Wodonga (VIC/NSW border, Australia) region since 1988.
My interests include electronics, programming (C, C++, ObjC) and sailing (mostly in QLD).
Professionally I'm still involved with design and maintenance of NC control systems, servo motors, VSD's, encoders, glass scales, etc.
Whilst I understand the basics of G-code programming I wouldn't know how to operate a CNC machine.
Thanks to Neil and all admins of this forum, you've created a great resource.
