In 1990 a group of people came together to share an extraordinary ambition - to construct a brand new Peppercorn A1 Pacific. They formed The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and after nineteen years of incredible effort that locomotive, No. 60163 Tornado, moved under its own power for the first time in 2008. It's a pity the videos are a bit jerky in places, but they give you the idea.

I haven't managed to find it yet, but somewhere buried in Youtube is a great clip of the creation, building and testing of the Tornado.

Much of this work was still being carried out in our own Eveleigh Loco Shops ar Redfern into the 60s although not new engines but many components forged and machined as in vid, And yes, those little workshop trucks were there as well!!
