The other issue in my opinion with machine pricing is as follows. A number of people are selling stuff for an elderly or deceased relative. They have no idea what a Hercus tool grinder would sell for. They know it was treasured by the owner therefore must be worth something. Often the only way of putting a value on these things is for them to look at their favorite selling platform. The see something similar and put a similar price on theirs. What they don't realise it the one they saw for sale is overpriced and it is still up for sale.
I had a conversation with a lady that was selling her dads stuff recently when I purchased my lathe for a fair price. There was a few for sale and she priced it a bit below what they were listed at. She had trouble pricing the Hercus T&C that sold before I got there. Since there were none for sale see looked a few forums and found out about 10 years ago they were selling for $500. Since hers was in perfect condition and came with a heap of tooling she decided to try for $600. Guess what it sold very quickly and the add was taken down.
The same is happening with heaps of stuff. I would have no idea what a set of Jousting sticks are worth and would have to check the market. I would probably overprice them because all of the fair priced ones are sold quickly.
Also don't try asking on a forum. There will be one that tells you they are worth a $ and another that says they should sell for $10 000.

That is true of advertised goods, I think auctions are the only way to determine a fair price.
I got my #1 for $750 + $115 buyers premium at auction it was in Mt Gambier though so took some retrieving. Since then I have spent probably nearly as much fleshing out the accessories I have for it.
The machine that China is looking at is in a dealer though so determining a fair price should be a matter of course.
