Thank you, I will have a read for both. Should be seeing the owner later today.
No great hurry the replacement AVR doesn't seem to be any closer to getting here as yet. lol

Talked to the owner. He tells me he bought it new and no one has been inside it, so I have to assume its wired correctly.
The AVR has turned up and I may have ordered the wrong one. There seems to be some that use a 470uf cap and some that use a 670uf cap. Many make no mention of the cap. My small brain can't see it making much of a difference(in the short term, the larger cap may have an easier life?) or at least not blowing anything up. If the cap can't maintain a high enough V then the output will be limited?
Weatherman says its going to be raining for a week, so its on hold ATM.

Hi Stuart, Guys,
The cap value will make very little difference to the voltage ! Its mainly a time constant thing. Plus if you consider that the tolerance on capacitance is usually -20% to +50% for electrolytic ones.Best Regards:

Weather man was wrong, so based on the above I plugged it in for a short test. Straight to 239.8V 52Hz. So added some loads.
1950W ok 242.5V 51Hz
4410W ok
6510W won't do it. I think V dropped to about 140 and possibly the rpm dropped, but I didn't leave it long enough, took the last load off and it recovered fine.
I don't recall the rated load, the peak is 8kw so I guess that's about right for a noname gennie. I had thought it was a brand name(for what that is worth)
Calling that fixed. Though I might get the owner to give it a longer test(and possibly order a spare AVR).
Thanks allLast edited by Stustoys; 13th Nov 2021 at 10:19 AM. Reason: 541hz was a typo ;)

Should I be concerned at this effort at heat sinking or do I assume the manufacture knows what they are doing? Maybe its cooling something I cant see under the fill..
