Looking forward to the videos when they eventually get done.

Work continues on the big planer. Still a few electrical issues to sort out.
But as that happens have slowly started unpacking some of the tools that have been in storage for last few years. Thought I might share some of them.

IMG_2706 (2).jpg A couple of Mikrokator comparators. These are amongst the most sensitive comparators around. And yes that really is 5 and 10 millionth's of and inch on the dial (remembering 1 micron is 40 millionths)

    Cheers and more to come

    Some more interesting tools

IMG_2702 (3).jpg A few Biax's. 2 power scrapers and 1 flaker. One scraper has been rewired 240v and the others are 110v which I power through a 240v to 110v transformer. Seems to work fine. These are older Biax's and don't have inbuilt speed controllers but they can be added externally if need be.

IMG_2711 (2).jpg A few taper mics. I absolutely love these things. They come in internal and external types and different sizes. I have a larger external one somewhere.

IMG_2710 (2).jpg A master height gage and 6 inch riser. It also has a 12 inch riser so can measure up to 30 inches

IMG_2713 (2).jpg IMG_2714 (2).jpg A beautiful scraped angle master. The work gone into this is amazing

IMG_2720 (2).jpg A set of 5 and 10 inch sine plate masters. For fast setting of specific angles

    More still to come

And to keep the party rolling

    IMG_2723 (2).jpg

IMG_2724 (2).jpg A couple of centricators. On top is the newer style and below is the older style which I prefer

    IMG_2721 (2).jpg A beautiful 12 inch cylindrical square

    IMG_2722 (2).jpg A 6 inch magnetic cylindrical square

Hope you enjoyed all these and will show some more interesting tools as they come out of the boxes
    Thanks for looking

    Hello Mark,

You have some very interesting pieces of tooling there, particularly the Mikrokator comparators.

A place that I used to go to, closed down now, had thrown one into the scrap bin ! I couldn't get at it because of the wire fence and the place was all locked up.
    Best Regards:

My several posts got deleted from this thread, so now I watch on every now and then.

Honestly, no use taking the time out writing it all out to have input, if it then gets deleted, sorry.

    Hi dave
Why were your posts deleted? Do you know?
I know how frustrating that would be as it takes me a long time to post anything
Anyway I hope you enjoy at least looking at the posts

I do, no idea why, someone posted something and I replied, no idea why it was all deleted as I thought it was all on subject.

    G'Day Dave,
Sometimes the forum software seems to go belly up, – sometimes I just lose a post, usually when it is quite long and detailed, and it has even happened just after the "Auto-Saved" flag has appeared in the bottom RH corner of the text box. If you are using Tapatalk, that is possibly another opportunity for the gremlins to get in and stuff things up, but having seen many of your posts over the years, I don't recall ever seeing anything that would cause offence and require the moderators to act, other than some of your original spelling LOL. You have always been a great contributor as far as I can see, helping out when you can, and all that sort of thing, keep up the great work.
    Rob

    Wow
I don't know what they cost new but they would have been pretty expensive. There is someone with a Platen for the mikokator stand on US ebay at the moment and he wants $400USD for it. Dreaming

You see them from time to time but usually pretty cheap as no one really wants this stuff anymore.

One of the amazing things is they have an even more sensitive comparator than the ones I showed. Down to resolution of 50 nanometers (or 2 millionths of an inch ) if I remember correctly. Incredible when you think raising the temperature of steel by one degree causes expansion of 12 millionths or 300 nanometers per inch Off the top of my head....I think thats correct)

Anyway if you see another one in the bid I'll come over and we'll cut the fence

    Cheers
    Mark

So finally the big planer has come to life!!
Needed a general clean, counterweight re inserted and all the wiring reattached. Luckily all the numbers on the wires were still there so came together reasonably quickly. Unfortunately when I fired her up nothing happened so had to go back to basics and do some wire chasing. Slowly worked out what was meant to happen and with some minor changes it all came to life. Happy enough to put the table back on and see her working for the first time in 3-4 years. Still have work to do but definite step forward today

IMG_2739 (2).jpg Table being put on. It was a bit of a slow process as the table gear rack had to mesh with the spiral drive gear. Got there in the end.

Anyone know how to add video from your own recording rather than from the internet?
    Thanks

Have you tried using You Tube, it is the easiest way that I have found. That's how I have been doing it lately.

Hopefully attached is a video of my planer moving for the first time in 4 years. If this works might post more videos in the near future.

Link worked, planer looks good. one piece of constructive criticism, hold your phone horizontally when taking the video, so it comes out in a wide screen format, which is better for youtube.
