    Default Stuck wheel removal

    Looking for out there suggestions..

Mate has a few ride-on mowers. (Cox). He acquired one to strip for spares, including spare wheels/tires.
Problem is, the wheels won't come off. They are alloy, on a stub axle.
Obviously corrosion between the alloy and axle.
Tried making a puller with 75x25 rhs and 3/4 all-thread. Enough pressure to bend the bars but no movement.
Going to try heat next, but can't get too hot as the tyre is still mounted.

    Any ideas?
Hopefully he doesn't want the axles, in which case we can try to cut them, and drill out.

What I've done on Auto's is either a 3' long piece of 4"x4" soft wood, or Your favorite dead blow hammer. Hit the tire about 2-3" from the bead. Can also apply force from underneath. May take many wacks and cold brews, keep the puller on it. Hit with the 4x4 with the end not the side.Turn the wheel often.

My usual methods for freeing stuck bits are a combination of - penetrant (usually just ATF/acetone mix), load it up with a puller, bit of heat, decent smack with a hammer while the puller load is on it.
If you’re not in a hurry then a few cycles of penetrant and a little bit of heat over a few days to start with usually makes it easier.

I removed the cast wheel from my old Greenfield mower with a 3 jaw adjustable puller - nothing special but it is big enough.
Its jaws grip the inside of the rim, with the tyre in place but deflated.

I've had success removing corroded alloy pulleys and mag wheels by pouring heated white vinegar around the shaft or hub.
If you can flip it so the wheels are horizontal and let it soak for a while then better still.
The vinegar softens the oxide layer and frees things up. Heating the rim will also help.
    Cheers,
    Greg.

You might have already done it but just in case you haven't...
If you were to use heat don't forget to remove the core inside the valve to make pressure doesn't build up inside the tyre tube.

With the tire inflated try hitting the rim with a rubber mallet. Don't keep hitting in the same spot though, rotate the wheel. A bit of spray like Inox or CRC doesn't hurt ever, spray it on first and let it soak in.

Thanks everyone - looks like some good tips
Use a puller with penetrant, try heat as well. And tap firmly on the tire

Try vinegar soak if a few cycles of above doesn't work
