    Default 2020-2021 Plane Building Challenge

    2020 – 2021 Challenge
    Build a Woodworking Plane

I wish to extend an invitation to all members of the Metalwork Forums to join in our 2020 -2021 Plane Building Challenge. Details of the challenge are posted > HERE < on Woodwork Forum.

Planes may be made from wood, metal, plastic, etc or any combination and can be based on your own design, someone else's design or a modification of an existing design, but does not include the restoration or modification of an old plane.

The competition judges are IanW, fletty and derekcohen. The competition closes on 31 March 2021.

    Good luck,
    Bob

There would be quite a bit of work to build a wooden plane, who is going to be the test pilot

You have to remember that the first aeroplanes were made from wood and canvas and the test pilot survived

Has the completion date of 31 March 2021 been chosen for a particular reason.
The reason I am asking is that there is possibly another small aviation event on around that date, depending on Covid 19.

That is the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Air Force.

I think there a bit off confusion hear,
This competition is for making a wood working plane from eithe Metal or wood, or anything really.

    Nothing to do aeronautical wise.

Came from an plantation eucalypt, bluegum to be specific. It was from a short length off the base of one tree, no other tree in the block was like it. From the outside it looked like that butt section was covered in pimples.

Default there are planes and there are planes...

There is lots of fun and variation in plane making. For example, here are some I prepared earlier (not the metal ones ) ). Mostly I make them for my own woodworking, and a Krenov-style, like the little square one on the left of the three, work well, but will impress no-one.
