Hi Guys,
Since it has an anti rotation key, I reckon that it goes on the end of a shaft and between it and the sidewall of the box !
Could be that when it was originally fitted, it wasn't properly in place and not located on the lug for the key. So when the shaft was put in, the thrust washer was trapped at an angle, squashed and then broke and dropped into the bottom of the box.Best Regards:

I spent ages trying to work out shere it came from, to no avail. I couldn't find any shaft with the same diameter. The only thing I could come up with was that perhaps it came from the lower shaft that connects to the forward/neutral/reverse switch. As the picture shows, the switch extends beyond the dimple, and testing it by hand, it locks up the whole mechanism. So perhaps it was to prevent the switch from extending too far?
Given that the previous owner was running it without issue, I'm contemplating doing the same.Attachment 386769

Hi Vic, Guys,
If you can see into the box where that lever is, you might be able to see a recess where that thrust washer belongs. It might be there to ensure that some gear or other lines up properly and not riding on the teeth edges.
I doubt that the manufacturer would have put a thrust washer in if it hadn't been necessary.Best Regards:

Yes, I agree with you. I can see right down into the lower section, as per pic. However, I cannot find any shaft that looks like it would fit this size/shape.

Would it be possible that it (used to) fit between a couple of gears??

Does the witness mark look like it will match any other diameter?
At first impression, would appear to me to be as Baron J states, something next to a casing. Hard to tell ID with no scale, any rotating levers outside the headstock removed in the process? Reminds me of some old iron vices that had split thrust rings like that for rotation of the handle.....even if this one is not designed that way and broken.

To my untrained eye, I cant see anything that matches. I've spent ages looking, and moving every associated lever.
Nothing was removed in the moving process.
Thanks for trying to help figure this out.
I ran it briefly yesterday and moved levers (whilst stopped), and gained no insight.

as the Aprentice says above the break is not at 180 degrees.
It has an anti rotation notch???, which may suggest its id is reasonably close to shaft size?
therefore, how did the larger piece fall of or out?

Thanks for that, doesn't look like there's any type of thrust washer in any of your pics.

Thanks for your effort. Looks like mine.. I can't see anything that resembles the washer. Most puzzling.
