    Default Steel Ravens

Whilst not a machining project, I thought I'd show you my recent metalwork project.
Made from flat templates outlined onto sheet metal, cut, scored, bent and welded, and left outside to rust. Many hours of trial and error.

They stand about 300mm high and 450mm long.
Not hard to see my welding leaves a lot to be desired.

They look great, good enough to keep other birds away even.

    Hi Vicval01

    Definitely something to crow about!

    Well done!

What was the process you used to weld them up.? Oxy ,Mig, Tig or Stick?

How long does it take to make one? My partner wants to know are you taking orders, as she loves them, as you've really captured the shaping of it.

It's hard to estimate, I didn't keep track of the timing. But the one I cut pieces by hand, and the other two I had laser cut which were about $200 each just for supply and cut. I would think the one I cut would have taken me somewhere around 100 hours all up. I would take orders, but in order for it to be worth my while, your partner might not want to pay what I'd like to get for them.
I am planning to do some other animals in the future, probably focusing on Australian natives. If you're interested, PM me with your phone number and I'll contact you. Thanks for the positive feedback.

You have done a good job capturing them.
    Ravens are such smart birds.
I have some photos of a flock of them on Vancouver Island feeding outside a house in a native village. I would have stayed there all day watching them but my wife was nervous about our surroundings.
Bill Reid has done some amazing sculptures which often include Ravens.
The bronze cast ‘Black Canoe’ is in the Vancouver Airport.

Those ravens are fantastic. You really have captured their true character extremely well. That's not easy to do!

I wish I had that ability!

Thanks Simon, patience is a major contributing factor. And skill is just an action repeated. Just got to start at the beginning.
