    That's an old bottle from the old days. Hasn't been argoshield 50 for 30 years
    Might be a good buy if you want to sit on it for 20 years, but once it's empty, it's scrap metal. No one will fill it for you.
    What's a new, full one worth on those 'buy your own' plans these days? 250? 300? maybe more for an E size tank?

    Just under 500 for an E, 600 for a G size.

    Use up the gas, then use it as an air compressor tank.

    BOC seem to have a good deal at moment. No rent, one yearly payment.

    Yeah, but......

    When I got my annual rental account recently I went to BOC and asked to transfer my two nearly full D cylinders to the new scheme.

    Them: have you got the empties with you?

    Me: No, told you they are still nearly full.

    Them: We can't do that. You'll have to bring them back empty.

    Me: You want me to let a nearly full cylinder of oxygen and the same of acetylene empty into the air so I can qualify for the new scheme?

    Them: If that's what it takes.

    I've had a BOC account for forty something years, and paid a fortune in rental in that time. As soon as the cylinders are empty, Bunnings here I come!

    yes BOC did me a favour and cancelled my 20+ year account because I neglected to pay my outstanding account balance of 0.52 cents. I don't even recall getting a tax invoice for the amount so I went to bunnings also, a biut dearer for gas but with no rent and with not using a lot of gas these days I'm well in front.

    D =1.9 M3
    G = 9.5 M3
    So the G is equivalent to 5 D cylinders, making the G more cost effective by a fair margin, especially if you consider the G refill is only double that of the D refill.

    I can easily handle the G size cylinders with my floor crane and a bit of assistance from the better half.

    They set the debt collectors on me for $0.03 in rounding. I paid cash at a branch and their computer couldn’t reconcile rounding so off to the debt collectors. Dunn&Bradstreet were absolutely relentless in their pursuit of the three cents to the point I lodged a complaint with the financial services ombudsman on the basis of harassment. I eventually managed to find someone in BOCs accounts area that agreed it was lunacy and reconciled the rounding, then began the 11month saga of having my credit rating restored because D&B had lodged an unpaid debt notice with credit reporting agencies..
    I currently operate a commercial account with Supagas, no surprise there I guess.

    A mate can probably sell you a CIG cylinder cheaper, must be over 30+ years old though!

    Have found record keeping for most of gas suppliers leaves a lot to be desired especially when multiple bottles are involved - add in retailers, and you need to examine each bill in detail...went through several months combat with accounts last time BOC was in the picture with their dodgy invoices.

    The islander who delivers Gs here, can throw a full cylinder over his shoulder with ease, I need to do a bear hug to lift the bastards.

    Supagas scan each and every cylinder, religiously, can’t turn in or take a bottle without the barcode being being scanned. At times I will have up to a dozen bottles out for short periods and the inventory is always accurate, Should I have any queries on either costs or inventory I can go to the branch and see the person who manages my account directly. The level of service from the smaller player is well worth the small premium I pay for not having to deal with muppets.
    And I get free delivery

    The bunnings cylinders are great u get a little more gas than buying from speed gas but for me the downside is i am always running out of cash and bunnings has the $200 deposit quiet easy to duck back in and get the deposit with a empty bottle

    The good thing about buying outright from speed gas is u dont need to come up with that $200 deposit on top of a projects cost so it is easier to duck in to a store with $100 for a refill

    I really need to buy a speed gas argon mix to add to my argon and i'll be a happy camper
