Put up the first of the 8 crane rails today. These have had me a little concerned as the tolerances for the hold down bolts are quite small and the 24" I beam is very heavy and awkward to position. But no worries as it fitted perfectly. I had to cut these to size by hand due to their size and have always used oxy-acetylene in the past but was never happy with the outcome so cut this with a 9 inch angle grinder. It was actually easier than I thought it would be but you need to be careful.

Looks really good. I know it can be a nerve wracking time when assembling hoping all your measurements were correct.

So the sorry saga continues. I must admit I have not been much of a forum member later but I am committing every available minute to trying to finish the shed before summer. Promise to be more active when I finish. Anyway here are some more photos. I hope to all the structural elements finished and erected by the next weekend.

IMG_1710.jpg Really starting to take shape.
Next it will be time to work on the crane itself. I had to cut it into 4 pieces for transport so needs to be cut to size then welded back together. More photos once I get to that.
Cheers

IMG_1735.jpg So happy to have all the big crane rails finally up. They all fitted nicely which was a relief. Putting big beams like this in place can be a little bit scary so a good day when its all done without issue.

Nice work Mark. If you think those beams were hard to erect, wait till you go to put up the main crane beam!!!!

Putting the crane back together is the last big hurdle in the whole shed build. Positioning the 11 meter by 2.2 meter crane so it can be welded back together will be a struggle. Need to fabricate some Tyne extensions for the big forklift first so I can safely pick it up and move it about. Anyway slow and steady is the way to go. Will take plenty of pictures when the time comes. First I have to put up the railway line the crane runs on and clamp it in position. That is this weekends job!!
More pictures as I go
Cheers

Looks good.
Here is an idea for the crane rebuild. Get more headroom.

Wow that's one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Would have liked to have been there when someone suggested "lets make the overhead crane curved"

devoted to study rarely occurring natural phenomena such as the interactions of neutrinos of cosmic origin or dark matter with atomic nuclei.[2][1][3]
In Murray Bridge, we have something similar, except they're devoted to study rarely occurring
natural phenomena such as the interactions of workers of ethnic origin with the lack of grey matter
of original nuclei.origins.To grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

The drought rolls on but so does shed building. Have been putting up the crane rails that the crane will run on. The clamping bolts are all pretty rusty so need to wire brush and coat all 108 before they go up. The clamps are spaced about every meter with a pair of clamps at each space. One clamp goes on side and its pair goes to other side. That way you can adjust to position of the track to be straight and parallel.

IMG_1743.jpg Also getting ready to move the crane for cutting up and welding. Need to make some 9ft tyne extensions for the big forklift so I can move the crane into position. I looked into buying a set from East west engineering but at $5000 for a pair I thought I would make my own. Not sure what they weigh but would estimate 500-600kg for the pair. No moving these by hand.

Will do a post on collecting the crane next to give you an idea of what is involved in welding it back together.
Cheers again
