I just came back from having a chat with Mark. He has this move under control. The machine is absolutely immaculate. But even more amazing is in the building next door are 3 more planers and a traviling head shaper. One planer is probably 100 years old made in Alexandria Sydney and is still in use every day.

Hang on - I thought it was just Melbourne where there was only one camera shared between everyone.
Has the problem spread to Sydney too?

Stu has the camera this month. I'm booked in for next August. Its getting harder and harder to get the polaroid's printed out and scanned, since Kodak closed down.

Just in case anyone gets jealous with this planer and wants one that isn't as pretty, I saw this in a yard today.
sorry for the high jack but I couldn't find the planer appreciation society thread.

Home safe and sound and without trouble. Have plenty of photos both of the move as well as the other 3 planers next door. Too buggered tonight but will post some tomorrow. Now time for bed

I have to thank Mark for letting me hang around and see how moving large machines is done it was a good way to spend my Saturday.
I am amazed how easy it is to move 16 tonne with 3 skates and a toe jack. The crane guys decided they needed the "bigger" crane to lift it onto Marks truck. Big machine or small it always takes longer then you think to move them, The crane got there at 11 and was on the truck at 3 30. Heres a flying planer.

Text book bit of rigging with that spreader bar.

I see the table come off. What was the reason for that? Concerns with weight?

    Regards Phil.

(On Edit) The new toe jack worked O.K? I'm yet to try mine, dont want to scratch him.

I got onto another one. 8 Ton Hydraulic Toe Jack Ram QD-8F Light Weight Portable Aluminum Tool | eBay 8T and only 9 lb's. Shipped out of Hungary, last Tuesday, was here Friday, $300 bucks landed.

    More Pics you blokes.

Do they go so high with the crane to keep the angle of the chain legs in pretty tight?

It still looks like a brand new machine in the photos. Has it been repainted?

Did the crane load scales give you a different weight to Phil's? Of course any discrepancy with Phils weight will be the fault of the crane scales

Did you have to worry about oversize? Or just do what we do here and just drive and everyone else will get out of the way
