    Default Which wheel is which?

    Hi,

Me again. Can anyone tell me the best wheel for a 125mm bench grinder for shaping HSS tools bits for my lathe? It's only a cheap grinder and as such, the wheels that came with it aren't much chop.

    Cheers

    Pat

    Dubbya ,
Aluminium oxide wheel (grey) ,is best , get a coarse grit for rough grinding the shape and a fine for finishing .Not sure what grits I have they just came with the grinder when I bought it.
A slip stone is good for honing after using the fine wheel.
For carbide tipped tools you need a silicone carbide wheel , which is the green one.
I've got to get a fine and coarse SC wheels as I have a big heap of carbide tools to dress up.

Now that I've thunk on it ........

I should just get another grinder set up instead of changing wheels all the time. Then I need one with wire brushes and another for the polishing mops.
