Parting off video
I recently found this video I made several years ago of my lathe parting off some 90mm round bar using a insert carbide cutter....My lathe is one of the Hare and Forbes AL1000C model...I had hell trying to part off until I purchased this insert tool....HSS would work OK until the cut got deep then it would run out of lubrication and dig in the carbide insert just keeps going...
The video is just under 5MB in size.. enjoy...

Nice. Where did you get the insert tool. What size is it?

Inserts are generally available from your local engineering supplier provided they are not of a design made of unobtanium like my current one is..When I use up my current supply of 10 inserts I will have to purchase a new blade along with inserts to suit, which is no biggie as the blade will be worn out by then...I am told the blade holder is a generic size so no problems there...
These tools are not cheap but I had resorted to parting off with the hacksaw before I bought these..
Here is a cheep one on ebay but I have no idea what size it is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Lathe-Parting...QQcmdZViewItem
