Thread: Seeking artistic or old-fashioned metal worker.

I have made some drawings based on 18th century steel garden furniture designs and I'm interested in having a few produced.

I don't expect the person who makes them to be conversant in antique steel furniture, but they would need to be sympathetic towards older wrought iron techniques. Just about everything in the chairs and table is made from fairly small section flat bar and there is some bending involved.

Ideally I would like the individual components to be riveted together, though I would also accept discreetly rose-welded joints. I definitely don't want large, obvious MIG or stick weld beads to be visible. In other words, I don't want them to look like they've been welded!

The drawings are copyright, so I won't post them on the forum, but if anyone out there is genuinely interested (no sightseers please!) in possibly making a few samples, would you please PM me with your details and we can take it from there.

you may like to contact The Traditional Tools Group www.tttg.org.au at least one of its members is or knows a blacksmith who works with traditional designs and techniques.

about a year and a half ago, I went to a talk given by this person where they described the making of a wrought iron staircase balistrade using techniques similar to those described by you.
