Thread: Belt Grinder /Sanding Machine Plans

Morning all,

Wondering if anyone has any plans or instructions to make a knife belt sander /grinder to sharpen metal knife blades etc...I have seen a few commercial ones such as the Baldor, Grizley and the Burr King - all exy and US voltages but as I have a few spare 240 v AC 1ph motors and parts lying around - was wondering if it's possible to knock up a fairly decent one on my lathe that'll do the job rather than use the linisher or wheels which are a bit savage - especially on some soft blades I have Loose fine belts seem to better finish edges and can also use leather belts to remove burrs and polish them - especially curved blades ...any clues or help greatly appreciated please?.....
