sharft and bushes help needed.
I'm a wood man myself but I'm building a mortising jig that requires a 400 mm 5/8 OD shaft and two bronze 5/8 ID 1" bushes for the shaft. Any one know a supplyer in the Caboolture QLD area that might have such gear please.

Hi mate.
just my 2 cents,
Wouldnt it be better to use 2 bearings. Im almost possitive you will be able to get some in those sizes.
But it might not be appropriate!
Thanks mate

Not sure if you would be able to buy the bushes off the shelf to suit, you may have to get them machined.
With your shaft you should be able to get some High Tensile Ground bar of 5/8" dia from a steel merchant.I know its available in Sydney.

Bronze bushes are available off the shelf Motion Industries: Chain Drives, Belt Drives, Couplings, Gearboxes, Brakes, Electric Motors and more
Also listed in 2" and 2 1/2" lengths
I cannot find any listing for ball roller bearings in that size.. ball roller bearings are generally metric (as they were invented in europe)..Imperial ones are usually more expensive
The opposite is the case for tapered roller bearings, they were invented in the US and are mostly imperial sized..

Lee Valley sell a set of a 5/8 shaft with right & left threaded ends, washers, nuts etc. and a choice of bronze or ball bearing blocks - cleverly hidden in the sharpening section.
