Default using belt sander as linisher

    Hi,

I've got a makita 1040w belt sander that i'm thinking about corverting to use as a linisher, would there be any problems in doing this?

    Thanks

    Do you mean like this?

    If so, no problem.

    Cheers

VC, you don't say what you want to use the linisher for. If it's occassional use with timber, go ahead. If it's more regular use with timber and you can find the room, consider a medium sized linisher in preference, as you will have a unit with better dust proofing and a longer belt, meaning better belt life.
If its metal, don't do it even for a small one off job, as the tool will end up with metal dust inside and will have no end of problems until you chuck it out in frustration. For metal, you really need at least a 3HP fully sealed induction motor driving a decent contact wheel and belt setup. The old school pedistal polishing engines are great, the newer style compact ventilated ones tend to chew out within a short time (18 months) in commercial applications.
