H&F benchtop panbrake
Just looking thru the H&F sale catalogue and see a 600 x 1mm benchtop panbrake. I'm after something of a similar size for .7 and .5mm stainless steel about 330mm wide. Does anyone have one of these already and can make positive comments about it?

Make your own
Burraboy
Search back through this forum and you will find an absolute truckload of info and plans about a DIY 600mm panbrake model a bloke called Simso has made.
You need access to a mill and a lathe though. I am guessing you might come in at under $150.Theres no question it would do the job as it is a 600mm wide job. .
How would that compare with the H&F price.

I have H&F's next size up pan brake and it gets the job done. I reckon H&F's lower end gear is generally consistent with all the comments you hear about the USA's Grizzly/Harbor Freight tools - will handle hobby duties but wont hold up to use at the claimed max capacity or production environments.
Regarding the DIY option - its one of those situations where if you already have the tools to make it, and time, then it's worth it, otherwise the H&F machine is only $395 and 2 minutes to hand the cash over.

No mill and the lathe is a clunker, so the 2 min handover looks good. It's just a matter of whether it will stand up to the material and the application. I might turn up with an offcut of stainless and see if they will let me try it out. It's a fair drive though, so any opinions are welcome.
Thanks.

I reckon that's a good idea. AFAIK the floor stock are demo machines so shouldn't be an issue.
