    Default Toolholders ..

    G'day

Looking for some tools for my new lathe ..
The lathe toolpost holder says 16mm x 16mm tool shanks.
Is it possible to use 12mm x 12mm and prop it up so it sits just under the center ?
Would using a smaller tool cause chatter or other problems ?

    Thanks

    Nic

    Hi Nic,
You can use 12 mm tooling if you want, but you'll have to pack it up to the centre of the job, not below it.
There is not other reason why you can't use 12mm tools.16mm tools will be more ridged, but you probably won't notice unless taking large cuts.
