Default colchester student 6 safti lathe

    Hi guys,

Getting desperate now, must be some one who owns one of these lathes in Australia that I could pick there brains.
I've got the lathe bug now and I'm sure most of you know what its like.

    p.s.
    My wife hates my lathe!!

    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Arthur,
I can't help you specifically, but have you seen the www.lathes.co.uk/ website?
This guy has info on hundreds of different brands of lathes.
Also, have you searched for any forums that may have Colchester owners. that may be able to help? I don't know how many of those lathes would be in Oz, but I'm sure there will be heaps in the UK.
Keep trying, something will come up.

    Hi Art,
I found this web page and it has a Colchester Yahoo Group on it.
    http://www.homeworkshop.org.uk/links_groups.html
Is that the group you found?
The link, second from the bottom , is for online manuals, so that might be of some help as well.
I downloaded a manual for a Colchester and it has exploded diagrams of the gearbox, etc, so that might be what you need.
Let us know how you go.

Finally solved the threading problem, after going through the gearbox checking all the gears etc and found nothing amiss, so went back to checking the back gears and found that by putting the 35t gear on the gearbox input and the 21t on the spindle I was then able to get all the correct threads I selected.
I was sure I had tried this gear combination before but obviously had not.
So I'm very happy now as I thought I had bought a lemon.

My computor had been out of action hence the delay in replying.

Many thanks to all for there help

    Regards

    Art,
