a question for the people who do stuff with metal
Here's probaably a non standard post for this web site but anyhow, thought I would ask coz thought it might be something I can do ... I take pole dancing classes to keep fit and the studio currently sells the poles for $880 which I just cant do right now but thought i might improvise with some DIY ... here are the specifications if someone can let me know if this is "do-able" but more imporatantly, how easily i can stuff it up and end up breaking my neck by falling on my head ... can I buy brass pole from bunnings at 38mm wide? if so, is it an expensive material? that being said ... suspending it between ceiling and floor in a sturdy fashion ... preferrably with as little damage / holes to the ceiling and floor as possible ... or even just going from the floor and not hitting the ceilingif this could be done ....
Thoughts anyone?
ps. if someone reckons they would be good at this you should make some up and get onto ebay! big market for this right now as these classes are VERY popular ... i think my studio has over 600 students attending each week... and plenty of girls coughing up the coin for the poles etc

An aluminium tube would be much more readily available at a far cheaper price.

can I buy brass pole from bunnings at 38mm wide? No
if so, is it an expensive material? Extremely
that being said ... suspending it between ceiling and floor in a sturdy fashion ... preferrably with as little damage / holes to the ceiling and floor as possible ... Not very easy considering the forces placed on the pole by the dancing
or even just going from the floor and not hitting the ceilingif this could be done .... Even harder than above
Thoughts anyone? Considering what the poles are used for and that brass is getting very expensive I don't think that $880 for a pre-made pole is unreasonable.Have a nice day - Cheers

Can you take a pic of the $880 pole and post it? Some one might be able to come up with a cheaper solution.
Does the $880 include coming to your house and installing?I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Woe! talk about answers love it
stainless steel is not an option, they do make them, i actually have one and it is hideous to dance on, absolutely not grip, i have tried everything from sanding it to spraying it with hairspray etc have resulted to a quick spray of spray adhesive on it each night to help grip for the following day ... sucks really, not into it at all.
rightio ... if $880 is the going price ill have to save my pretty pennies
Picture attached. Suggestions welcomed.
Once again, thansk for the input.
Price doesnt include installation but i think they do it for like $50 or something ... depending on area etc.

Does it have to be brass?
I'm sure a lot cheaper solution could be found using some other material.
My immediate thought was a length of aluminum thick walled tube. Surely one of those would not be more than $2~300 a length and get a machinist ti fabricate a couple decorative locating plates that could be screwed into the floor and ceiling?
Anyway, it sounds easy.....

From those pics, looks like the top section screws upwards and puts pressure on that small board against the rafters? Means you can probably use it anywhere and its always movable.

alrighty alrighty, i know, last pic wasnt fantastic, thats a brass one, to give you an idea of my current configuration (which is stainless steel) here is how it works, top and bottom close ups .... but remember, im after something like this in brass ... or alternatively ... would aluminium be as grippy? (dont spose thats a question most have had to contend with before) or as a third question, any ideas on how to make the stainless steel surface more grippy? (aside from spray adhesive.)

I use to buy a fair amount of brass and actually got some for some of the boys here just recently and can tell you the you would be looking at least $300 for a length like that plus another $200 or more for the fittings plus the labour to manufacture.
I could find out what you would be looking at just for the pole, but you will have to wait till next week as I will be on the road for the next 3 or 4 daysCheers

you haven't mentioned that the pole has bearings top and bottom and the whole thing spins

You beat me to it underfoot, I have made a couple for friends don't know what current costs would be, $880 does not sound to unreasonable BTW aluminium is not an option tends to leave black marks on hands etc
