Used to ride a lot down around Waterfall and also there's a firetrail up in the Blue Mountains - near Glenbrook? Can't remember. Good ride though. Poor old MTB has been confined to the shed for a while. Might be time to dust it off again.[/quote]

I lived in woodford (2/3rds way up from penrith to Katoomba) for a few years, probably the most well known, is the woodford to glenbrook (the oaks). Did it a few months ago and still a great ride. Up and down for the first half and then all down!!!! nice singletrack at the end.

Now I'm near sutherland now and ride out near the reactor. There are stacks of trails and plenty of options, though just loops, nothing like the stuff in the mountains.

For those interested, my little bro (well he isn't even 6'3" ) is posting the pics of the build on Flickr for all to see.

    Cheers,

the woodford to glenbrook (the oaks)
That's the one. Great ride. Probably kill me if I tried to do it now.

My son has outgrown his bike so I decided to get him a new one. All inspired by this thread, and wanting to do my bit for recycling, I went to the tip yesterday to see if I could find a frame and wheels. Apparently, up to a couple of weeks ago they had about 50 bikes but they donated them all to Mission Australia. However, I managed to find a 16" frame with wheels in the scrap pile plus another set of forks and bars which I got for $5. It needs a seat, new tires, new chain, and a complete strip down and rebuild. Looks like I've got another project underway now, so I can safely finish building the new office.

The address for the Flickr Photo Set has changed.

Nice to hear the new bike's on the way too silent! I cannot believe how disposable bikes seem to be these days. I understand that the market for custom frames is not great, but I don't understand how many bikes get given/thrown away either!

    cheers,

    P

I was standing there looking at the great pile of twisted metal and you could see bike frames sticking out of it everywhere. None of them any good now, because they've been shoved around by the traxcavator. This one was lying there with a couple of adult's bikes waiting for the same fate I suppose.

I discovered last night that the previous owner of this frame has painted over it with silver frost paint. Underneath, it's polished. Will look flash when it's cleaned up. Hope I get it done before he grows out of it.

There's a bit of a scheme going here where some of the older kids help their Dads fix up an old bike that they've outgrown. They then give the bike to one of the younger kids and, presumably using the skills they learned, help the younger kid fix up one of their old bikes for a toddler. I thought that was a nice idea. Might get into the loop when Rory starts school.
