    Default Boiler plans

I was not sure where to post this so I posted here, does any one know of a book/Plans that is available on how to build a small boiler I am thinking of using Copper. I apologise if I have posted this previously, I checked and could not find any reference.

There is a very simple boiler located in the Ken Wells steam tractor plans meant for a simple oscillating type toy engine- you'll find them over at the Home Model Engine Machinist forum in the downloads section - need to be a member to download - just in case you not a member I post the plans here.

There have been a lot of boiler construction articles in Model Engineer over the years, mostly for model loco's and traction engines etc. However they are generally published over a number of issues, and sometimes there might be a gap of a couple of issues between one article and the next. Most of the stuff they have done for model loos up till th 90s were in copper, as were a fair percentage of other types.

Your intended use determines the size etc, and there isn't much point in trying to search for articles without knowing size, style and purpose.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

That is quite some pressure. 8 bar = 116 psi.
You will also need an appropriate heat source as well as a water pump.
The easy way might be to adapt a coffee maker.

For boilers of that ilk it would pay to acquire a copy of the AALS (Australian Association of Live Steamers)boiler code that specifies sizes of materials and methods of construction.

it would also be advantageous to belong to a model engineering society to to have the construction overseen and registered as safe by approved boiler inspectors.

The code limits the boiler pressure to maximum of 100psi.

I fully intend to include all the appropriate safety , I don't want it blowing up in my face.
