Default Bent Cross Slide Screw - Sheraton/South Bend 9a

    Hi there,
Putting back together a Sheraton 9A that I bought as a 'kitset'
She looks to be on pretty good condition - but I'm certainly no expert.
Anyway, the Cross Slide Screw is bent (see attached short video). Its not much - I would say 2-3mm at the end.
Can I heat the shaft and straighten? Or what's the preferred approach to fixing this?

    Cheers

Hi and WELCOME to a TOP FORUM.
I'd say that you could straighten it cold, using a garage press, which would be best. If you don't have one, I'd use a vise, as there is more control in the pressure applied to it.
Mount it in a couple of V blocks, or fab some angle to create a couple, that way as it's turned you'll see/measure the high spot and then press it down. If using a vise you'll need to sit it on a bench to measure/find the high spot.
Don't use a hammer, unless it's a brass or nylon faced one, otherwise you could damage the thread.
