I got my order in for the arbor.
Cheap enough from the UK at $34.00 incl shipping.

Next step; does anybody know what quick change tool post setup would suit my LAM lathe.

I own that smaller 250-xxx set which fits the Hercus, but its seems not to fit or suit my slightly larger lathe now.

I can post a picture of the attachment bolt and list sizes if that will assist any providing any guidance!!!

That bolt will be removable from underneath and you should be able to fit whatever you like. Multifix A is probably the correct size if not slightly on the small side, E might fit but be just a touch big. They are the only qctp I use except for a similar german one, they are expensive but I find the repeatable indexing very handy

    Hi Russ,

Why not make make your own tool post ! That way it will fit exactly and you can make it to take non standard tool sizes.

    See this link

    and this one

I've also some other pictures if you want them.

    I made an inquiry to an online supplier and the first question they asked me was;
"what is your lathe centre height?"

I'm not 100% sure what means?
Is it half the swing measurement?

Being some what of a novice the terms leave me, although explained a different way I do probably know!!!

    Hi Russ,

The centre height is the distance between the top of the shears (Lathe bed) and the centre of the chuck. Pop a centre in the spindle and use a steel scale (ruler) to measure it.

It seems my centre height is 150mm.

I measured my tool holder block.
It stands 70mm high, 75mm square and the clamping channel is 27mm high.

I took a quick look at the centre bolt in a my tool post carriage and still not sure how I can remove it.
I tried a pair of locking nuts but that bolt is well located.
Without attempting to remove the carriage it is difficult to tell what the deal is underneath...

You need to remove it and check underneath. Often there are anti rotation grubscrews or other features. Should be very straightforward to remove.

I've been distracted some what plus hot weather does not make staying out in my shop all that enticing right now.
i have not removed the carraige yet but will do this week.
In the meantime, I found this larger attachment that may fit my existing QCTP setup.
This could be part of my solution.

    https://www.ebay.com.au Item number 155130393015

I also have found in my searching a similar item to what I have but it seems to be a size slightly larger in height and holder capacity.

    eBay item number:263256059079

From memory my current unit holds 13mm and this other goes up to 16mm opening

I plan to email the Seller and see if the items will be interchangeable with what I already own...

OK, I've removed the side bevel spacer from my carriage.
    Easier enough.

Curious if my next step is to just wind the screw off the end of the captured nut???

Compounds are built lots of different ways, some will just wind off but some won't because the casting overhangs both ends these either need the nut unbolted somehow or one end plate being pulled off. These really are not that complicated and its almost impossible to really break anything. Just don't touch a hammer or force anything and you will get it.

    Well, success finally.
It turns out as posted here that the post bolt that I could not remove was infact locked in with a grub screw arrangement.

The carriage (thanks to my mobile phone camera) is attached to the carriage (captured nut) with an allen bolt and would not wind out.
The captured nut needed to be unscrewed and released by removing the allen bolt.

Needless to say, the cross carriage is now removed and the post bolt is undone.
    Yahoo.

I guess, I now need figure out exactly what I want and need to do to attach my choice of QCTP.
Thanks to those of you who offered advice on how to remove this carriage and post bolt.
It seems so simple now that it is done...

In the meantime while figuring out what QCTP I will run with, I need to work out what thread is on my main drive shaft as I want to make or acquire an additional face plate to run a small 3 jaw chuck that I have and find very useful.

It is from my Hercus and hence wont fit to the LAM lathe.

My main drive shaft thread OD is about 56.25mm and a thread of 3.0mm or close to 8TPI
Not sure if metric or imperial at this point.
I'm guessing metric going by all the fasteners used on the lathe...
