Mystery lathe
Can anyone help identify this beast? I am new to the world of lathes and am trying to source a manual for this beast to ensure I have all the right bits. It has a 15 amp motor with it but I am not sure it is the correct motor for it. Came cheep so worth a bit of mucking about I think.

Its is best to post questions about lathes in the General Metalwork Forum unless they are a Hercus or a Sheraton for which there are dedicated forums.
General Metalwork is where I have moved your post to ,now.
Did you use a mob phone to take pics and post? It could be what changes the position of the pics.
We are falling off our chairs trying to see your pics.
Unless there is a model number on the machine you may need someone experienced in lathes to give you an idea of the between centers dimension and also the center height. There are at least 2 different Pacific models,so those dimensions will really help.
Fixed one of your pics now but might find time for others tomorrow.
Here is a link to a 2015 enquiry https://metalworkforums.com/f65/t192...a-lathe-manual Scratch the Grizzly reference .Theres nothing like your machine in there. Maybe there is a member around Gosford who can possibly help you?

Hi FordBlitz
If your pics were saved on your computer it will most likely have a photo file. In that photo file there should be a rotation tool to turn the pic. You must Rename and Save the pic after you rotate it. You can then place it back into your post.
Don't be like me and forget to slightly alter the photo title with Rename or what happens is one loads the original back into the post
On some programs the tool is in View and on other operating systems programmes it can be under Tools
Also the operating system of the computer you are using can be different if you are using apple ( OS) or Microsoft (PC).
I had MSoft many year back but now use an Apple iMac.
I am no expert by a long shot and long story made short ,I saved your pics to the my computer put them in the photo file, rotated them and loaded (some of them) into your post.
At that point my iMAC had a hizzy fit in its RAM memory and decided it did not want to play the game any more.
I'll get to the other pic when i can.
Maybe there are some Gosford members who are are able to help you and have a look and better identify and measure up this lathe.
We have had quite a lot of folks look at the post but not too many have left a comment- so I'll guess its a rarity.
Cheers

Those vee ways on the bed look pretty knackered, maybe its a bad pic i am looking at on my phone but if those ways are as bad as they look from here i would only use that lathe for wood turning.

I have managed to turn the pics.
It can be hard to tell with a pic sometimes. Perhaps it may help establish if the ways are knackered by trying to hand clean with some stainless steel kitchen scouring pads. Maybe that is rust or is it congealed cutting oil sitting on the front vee section bed way.
The rear bed way is flat and looks to be mostly covered by the front extension of the saddle. If so, that a good thing as it was likely protected.
With the scouring pad used with a light oil and a wiping rag ,you can find out how deep the rust pitting is.
It won't do and damage other than to the soft rust. Clean and oil the exposed ways first and slide the saddle to the right hand extreme of travel.
Please show some pics of the non fitted parts if any, that came with the lathe.
2 chucks ,one 3 jaw ,one 4 jaw would be a very good start as well as a tail stock, none one of which can be seen in the pics, are essential.
A good to have, would be a steady which attaches to the bed ways, and a traveling steady which attaches on the saddle, which is the large assembly which locates on the top and front side and travels over the length of the bed ways- - the parallel machine vee shaped sections and adjacent flat parts.
If you are not sure of what chucks and ,steadies and tail stocks look like, they all can be googled.
Next time you are in the mood to take pics can I suggest you take a snap that shows the entire length of the lathe?
It really helps to compare lathes that might have different names but are almost identical. The Taiwanese did a lot of that in the seventies and eighties with same build lathes imported into various countries bearing different names. Its the first I have noticed that did not carry and obvious model no.
Cheers

From what I can see of the apron, I reckon its yet another variation of the std Taiwanese lathe from the 1980's/90's.
Some more pics of the apron, tailstock, inside the head stock etc would be helpful.

The layout of the headstock controls are very similar to the Hafco 350 variant of the early Taiwanese generic lathes.

PACIFIC in name only. The Pacific lathes I saw on Ebay and Machines4U were not even similar.
The killer fact impeding the search is that the Pacific label and the ACY info, is all there is, on the OPs lathe-at least for what we have seen to date.
The other models viewed had either a size data( eg:450 x 1500) or a model no.
The Pacific brand is not listed on lathes UK.There seem to be a lot of other Pacific branded machine tools like guillos ,presses, and folders around the place in Australia.
Possibly there are-or were- two different companies who have used the brand.
Hopefully FordBlitz can take a full length photo that one of us can match to a rebadged clone and we can work backwards from there.
Closest contender yet is the one that Ray-s posted.

Got a feeling Pacific might be a rebadged Taiwanese lathe sold by ACY Consolidated Machinery who no longer seem to be around.
I'd be contacting Machines4u as they have had them for sale in the past.

What about this one ?
It is not a real flash picture but I think its close. Close enough for a manual?????
Punched in Shun Shin as a search term and it took me to Grays on line. The control knobs and oil level sights seem in the right
places. The title reads Herless SSB-11 buk- yes buk, not one of my usual typos.
What do you blokes say?
