My 120L vertical sydney tools air compressor worked great with a super cheap auto hand held sand blaster i soda blasted a whole dirt bike aluminium engine it came up like brand spankin new but when i used the die grinder the air compressore was useless

Mine was 17cfm and i only got free air for around 70-80 seconds at 90psi before the motor kicked in

Best way is to dial down your psi so u use the least amount of air and still be able to sand blast that way u get more duty out of the compressor

Free air is what the compression head/s can deliver straight off the port, not the headroom between tank pressure and motor start pressure. If it was we’d all have gigantic receivers and the problem of free air delivery wouldn’t exist.

The way to assess if you compressor is really delivering 17 CFM is to time how long the recharge takes and to check the start and stop pressures.

For example - lets assume 30 secs to recharge from 90-120 Psi.
    That's a change of 30psi, or 2 atmospheres.
    2 atmospheres worth of tank = 2 x 120 = 240L, in 30s or 480/min = 16.95 cfm.

They’re pretty damn loud, at best similar to a belt drive, but at a higher pitch. Would be curious to see how the Chicago units compare.
Had to replace a compressor where I work - it was an angry little direct-drive unit that made a hell of a row, and often vibrated across the floor until it unplugged itself. I've been waiting more than 10 years for it to die, but it steadfastly refused to until last week.

It's a non-critical machine, so I was considering just getting another of the Supercheap "silent" compressors, but instead got a little Hush 50 unit from Sydney tools. While I've noted that the Supercheap machine doesn't seem to be particularly quiet, this Hush unit really is considerably quieter - much nicer to have around, and it sits still. I'm seriously considering selling the Supercheap machine I've got and replacing it with one of the 3 or 4 pump Hush units.

I’ve been using my 50L direct drive for the last couple of months while I get the shed sorted to a point of unpacking stuff off pallets. On Monday I took my 3 motor compressor off the pallet it moved house on. It’s night and day. If you do decide to buy one you will certainly notice the difference.
