    Default 400mm Sump Pump Pipe

Anyone know where I could purchase about a metre of approx 400mm poly pipe to make a pit for a submersable pump?

    Hi Nev,

Would someone like a drainage company have plastic lidable chambers ? The one in my front garden is about three feet in diameter and is in two three foot sections, it has a rectangular steel lid that contains blocks to match the path. From memory the lid is sat on a row of house bricks set in concrete surrounding the top.

The original concrete pipe that formed the chamber had collapsed from tree roots and builders debris thrown in around it, probably damaging it and why the concrete broke up. The replacement plastic has had concrete poured in around it.
    Best Regards:

A number of years ago the municipality was installing sewer pipes along some roads nearby. There were lots of offcuts anywhere from 2'/600mm to 6'/1800mm long. They were PVC and about 32/800mm across and about 1'/25mm thick. I asked if I could have a couple pieces and the crew said "Sure take all you want." Check out your city/municipality works yard and if they have any they might give them to you. Developers might do the same.

I've used ME Christensen at Logan Village in the past to make industrial size and strength plastic buckets from SWVP. They supplied the pipe made a bottom cap and glued it all together for me.

Thanks guys. Have made a temporary pit using a plastic waste bucket for now. Filled around it with drainage gravel with lots of small holes around the circumference close to base. Some 50mm drainage hose and a few fittings from Bunnings and it's good enough for now I think. Needed something now rather than later, even though I have to turn the pump on and off when needed, as pit is not deep enough for float switch to operate. I think the Real Estate may be sending a plumber in about a week, to see if we can work out a permanent pit and pump solution. I am not fit enough to do it myself and seeing as I rent, I would rather go through the Real Estate and owner about this. I had an Italian made submersible pump stashed away here for years so used that. They are about $550 now. 130Ltrs a minute I think. Paid $100 for it new from Cash Converters. Had storms here again this morning.

Bit late, but I'd use a 60L plastic rubbish bin from Bunnings. I have used them in the past to stop holes dug for concrete footings collapsing in on themselves. Cut the bottom off, insert footing, fill with concrete.

Yeah seen that done before, but I am not capable of digging a hole that big. Will leave it up to the owner to fix and pay for.
