Polishing inside tube
Hi all,
I want to polish the inside of some SS tubes using a sand flapper wheel.
To properly reach inside the tubes I would need an extension for the
sanding wheel, however I can't seem to find any suitable parts online.
There are some drill bit extensions available, like this: https://tinyurl.com/2p8knz5a .
They are mostly 300mm long and cost approx. 10 bucks so that would be OK, except they
have a female hex opening at the end while the sanding wheels are usually
mounted on a round rod, which means that when mounted in the extension
bit they would not be centered.
Does anyone happen to know of a simple way or other part which could
help me solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Polishing inside tube
I do that with a length of dowel of suitable dimensions. Cut a slit in one end fit a strip of wet and dry of suitable grit wrap a bit of tie wire round the end of the dowel to hold it together and chuck it and polish away.

I do similar with dowel or just a piece of steel rod.
I’ve never had to tie the end - as long as you put center of the piece of emery cloth or sandpaper in the slot, wrap it around and keep it turning while you remove it it stays wrapped tightly into the slot.
Scotchbrite works well like this too.

What diameter are we talking about?
RE: Using Dowel.
I did this with some Al tubing that was ~40 mm in diameter and up to 400mm long (yes it was a wind chime ) using a length of 25mm dowel onto which I turned a reduced (13mm) shank . Instead of using a slot I drilled about a dozen 10 mm holes at right angles to each other and rolled up some steel wool into 150mm long tapered cylinders and poked these through the holes so there were tapered hanks of steel wool hanging out each side of the holes. I then put the reduced shank into a floor standing DP and did the obvious thing with the tubes with the dowel at about 100 rpm. I made up three dowels - one with medium steel wool, one with super fine wool, and one with cotton rags coated in some buffing polish - came up a treat.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I might try the dowel method, it sounds like it
might be good enough for what I need done.
@BobL: the tubes in this case are in the 25-100 mm diameter range, length about 200 mm.
