4 x 6 Bandsaw Hydraulic Downfeed Cylinder
The Cylinder arrived Xmas eve.
It is bigger than I expected...lol ( Don't know why I thought that....)
Need to think about how/where to mount it to get maximum travel and best adjustment.
Think I prefer the right side, if possible , so I can see the progress easier. I think its designed for left side as the spring mount is on that side.
Will see.

That's a good price, I've never used Alibaba before only eBay. Is it straight forward, last time I checked they don't use paypal.

Have been looking at this, to try and work out how I'm going to fit this to my Bandsaw. Nothing is jumping out at me....lol
I think BobL and Baronj both had problems with their fittment and removed it in th eend. I'm concerned I will end up at the same place.
I have been thinking about how to get the most useable travel out of the cylinder. The bandsaw arm has to be able to travel 90°( so vertical cutting can be done ) , but it does not need to interact with the cyclinder until the lower 50% of its travel. It seems to me, the cylinder needs be mounted horizontally to allow easy manipulation of the controls.
I've worked out how to do it in theory. Need to make a model to test it.
This should mean that , for the last 50% of down feed, I will be able to use the full travel of the cylinder to control it, and hence, have better control over it.....I hope.
Is this something, if it works, that you guys would think improve its usfullness, or are there other reasons it didn't work for you guys?
I can try do a quick drawing in CAD, to clarify, what my plan is?

No, I still use mine for most cuts.
Mine is not fixed at the base end so can be flipped up out of the way if I need - it also means I can lift the arm up right out of the way.

Hi Steve, Guys,
I found that it was much more effective to use the spring and adjust the motor weight as a counter balance !
When I made the new motor mounting plate the motor ended up about an inch further back. Bear in mind that the original motor had been replaced by a 1Hp Brooks cap start and run one, no centrifugal switch, so quite a heavy motor.Best Regards:
Baron J.

I bought a saw that came with a downfeed cylinder fitted (by maker). It won't lift to vertical with the cylinder in place but the top attachment is a simple bolt that I leave only finger tight and can detach in seconds. That done, it raises to vertical just like a standard saw.

The Nebadawn kit fits where the spring was and allows it to go vertical

I looked at those but the US$200 plus US shipping was going to be more than twice what my BS cost
I ended up with one of these dampers for ~$50 including shipping

I only linked it as an example of using the original spring pickup
