I ran into a similar problem with my bandsaw, where to mount the downfeed cyclinder and still be able to use the saw in the vertical position. It works in both positions and you do not have to remove/disconnect anything. I ended up making my cyclinder and it is still working well after a quite a few years. Have a look in "Your Latest Project" post #943 and it may give you a few ideas. Great work on your saw as well.

Slow progess as I had to wait for shoulder bolts and its so bleeding hot!
Plate bolted to top of saw. Right Angle lower bracket 'modified' so its level .
Top mounts made, bottom mounts in progress.
WIll have to tack in place and see the range of movement....trial and error.....not keen, but the geometry would take too long...lol

I finally got a chance to finish this off. I've actually needed the Bandsaw for a couple of jobs and haven't been able to use it, so that is good now.
I tacked the cylinder mounts in place, tested, but arm would not fully raise, broke tacks and re-tacked in slightly differnt position, tested and perfect.
Seems to work well. I was worried about the leverage and not being able to slow the arm down enough, when cutting but it seems ok. I looked a few Bandsaws on the net ,with them fitted and there does not seem to be a preferred or standard 'orientation' to use. Some are vertical, some a slanted....

Hi Steve,
I started making a yet unfinished hydraulic damper for my bandsaw, but found that the larger motor and the slightly further back position gave a counter weight value that is ideal for the work that I need to cut, mostly steel. Its a bit heavy for aluminium though, but I don't use much of that.Best Regards:
