Graciano Sag 180 Lathe
Hello All,
I recently acquired a Graciano Sag 180 Lathe, however the manual has been lost. The quick change gear box does not list a 13 TPI thread. I am sure I will eventually need to cut a 1/2" UNC 13 TPI thread (or perhaps a 26 TPI Brass Thread). As this lathe was sold to the US there must be a way to cut a 13 TPI thread by using some of the change gears. The assistance I require; has anybody the Graciano document which advises the change gears on the required on the compound gear train when cutting pitches outside the range of the quick change gearbox.
Txs & Regards F T

I take it you have the early version of the SAG 180, same as mine, which only has 3 'letter' positions (A, B, C) and 6 'number' positions, as the later versions with 4 'letters' and 10 'numbers' had both 13 and 26 tpi listed on the chart. I have never come across a manual for this earlier variant, if you do find one I'd love to see it.
The good news is that I have previously looked at how to cut 13tpi, knowing like you eventually I'd need it, and it's as simple as swapping the gear on the gearbox shaft to 52T (instead of 80T), and selecting Whitworth/B/2.
26TPI is more of a stuff around, as B is the 'finest' thread position of the letters, but can be done no worries.
If you have a windows PC, private message me your email, and I'll send you a copy of the 'Lathegears' program written some years back by a member here, along with the setup file for the SAG 180 that I wrote after counting all the gears in the box to double check I had them right, and including all the change gears I have (think that's the full set). Then you can just type in whatever pitch you desire, and it will output a whole list of options and their accuracy - like so, for 13 TPI (Mine is currently set up with a 44T idler, hence the highlighted bar, although I haven't physically tried it, so it may require a different idler as well in order to actually fit).

If you haven't already dragged them off the web can also send you the later SAG 180 manual, and the SAG 14 manual (the same machine with mostly minor updates), which can be helpful if you're digging into it, although there are some small differences to the earlier models.
You also might find this thread useful, depending on what you're doing: https://metalworkforums.com/f303/t20...iano-sag-180-a
Note there is some inaccurate information here and there - for example, I'd use one size longer belts if I were doing it again. If you have any questions about something, feel free to ask in there, and I'll answer if I can.
