I release mine after use if I’m unlikely to use it in the immediate future, but not stressed if I forget to as generally I’ll be walking past it in the next couple of days and remember - so just do it then.
I haven’t had a blade break yet but have been through about 4 blades in the couple of years I’ve had it.

Mine is lot bigger than 6x4 so YMMV.

Received a really nice Koyo bearing for the blade adjustment knob.
Being mounted horizontally exposes the race to ingress of dust and other foreign material so I 3D printed a seal for it.
The blue tube is flexible filament, slightly smaller on one end to hug one of the bearing washers but spin around on the other.

It is now much much easier (and smoother) to tighten the blade. An excellent upgrade for the bandsaw.

You could even call it a "Flex handle"

It is a good idea though and will definatly be making something similar for my saw.

Do you release the blade tension after use or is it permanently set and you don't adjust it till you need to change the blade?

I don't release the tension on my MW BS..
Wood workers release tension mainly to reduce the likelihood of the "rubber" tyres developing flat spots but with hard metals wheels this is not an issue.

The wheels and bearing guides on my MW BS are badly worn and I reckon this contributes to the band coming off from time to time. I've thought about removing the wheels and skimming them flat but there's not much metal on them. Has anyone done this? The bearings just need to be replaced but I'm wondering if that is just going to be good money thrown at a worn out machine.

Did you get that locally? I'm trying to avoid the cheap eBay/China option these days.

It's not as cheap as it once was and takes even longer than before to arrive.

You might be surprised at the difference a set of new bearings would make. I replaced all six of mine with cheap ones from China.

    Yes, replace the bearings.
I'm sure it will make a big difference.
