I replaced the tension knob with a toggle handle.
As you can see I replaced other knobs as well.

    This is the machine.

Great idea Grahame with the thrust bearing. Did you use a needle roller ?.
I tried clamping my verniers to the blade and was able to get it to 2 and a half thou stretch before it got hard to turn. It should go to around 4 thou.
So I've been busy modding it already (as you do). It had screws to secure the blade cover so I made a couple of knobs. The 2 blade guide arms were pretty rough so I machined the top of those off. Also made a little table from spare 3mm plate for vertical use cos this machine didn't come with one.
I will probably end up making some sort of gauge for the tension. We'll see.

All looking pretty nice there Phaser.

    Thank you. That worked.

Those handles were made before I had my mill using just a drill and angle grinder

I eventually did black/Blue them - can't find the pics of the actual handles but here's a few of others I've done.

    Toggle handle.

I have been wondering what the items were called. "Thing a ma jig or whats it" does not help me when I wanted to do a search
I have lathe and angle grinder and now toogle handles are on the list

I am all for knobs ,handles and such like. What ever removes the need for using a spanner or what ever tool applies.

A time saver as the means of undoing the thread is ready at hand . No searching for the tool which I had not returned to where it was supposed to be left.

I think the more correct term is a "drop handle" but I've always called them "toggle handles".
"Toggle" is more likely to be used in "toggle" switches or levers as used on cabinet drawers.

    Yep - that's it precisely.

I would have thought more along the lines of "Swivel handle"

Yep that does sound better although I usually associate "swivel handles" with two rotational joints like on our swivel handled mop.

I was thinking about "Swivel ratchets" when I wrote that, you could say there is no real right or wrong answer.

You could even call it a "Flex handle"

It is a good idea though and will definatly be making something similar for my saw.

Do you release the blade tension after use or is it permanently set and you don't adjust it till you need to change the blade?
