    If you are going to replace the motor a used 3P motor and a cheap VFD is one possibility. One of my squirrel cage ventilators that I rescued from a skip at work came with a 1/4Hp 3P motor. I'm powering this with $70 VFD so I can have just ticking over at about 30Hz or run it at 70Hz where by it moves a heap of air.
