Expressions of interest - casting set for a replica TTH rotary fixture
In this thread
https://metalworkforums.com/f223/t20...le#post1991603
A rotary fixture was put up for sale by EFI, which Kryn quickly snagged.
It's an interesting looking thing and I suggested that I would like to borrow it from Kryn to measure it up and potentially make some patterns for it.
A couple of others have voiced some disappointment at missing out on this, so this post is to ask whether if I did make up some patterns up, are there members who would be interested in a set of castings? From past efforts at having castings made, I would estimate that a set is probably going to be around $400 to $600. To machine the castings I would guess that something able to cut an arc of around 75 to 100mm radius would be needed (both inside and outside) - whether that be boring head, rotary table or lathe. I think there would be 2 main castings (base and intermediate piece); the table could be a casting or cut from round stock (tbd) with all the rest of the pieces from steel or brass. Part of the measuring process will be generation of drawings for all the parts. I'd probably make a video or two on the processing if we went ahead, and could perhaps write up some build notes to help others along if needed.
I haven't laid hands on the original item yet so don't know how feasible this is all going to be, but if two or three others think they might want castings, it gives me more incentive to make patterns. Once the patterns exist, I can then get a price from the local foundary for castings and members can firm up based on accurate pricing. That's all in the future; to start with is anyone interested in potentially getting a set of castings?

EOI lodged.
No rush, I’m not going to be standing in front of a mill or lathe for a while…

Adam has put his hand up, so looks like patterns will be happening.
Anyone else? (I'm not asking for a definite "want some" - just something so I can say to the foundry that I'm potentially looking for somewhere between 2 and x sets. - it might get a price break but more importantly, it may move the pour up the queue a bit as they only do grey iron when they get enough for a melt)

Yeah I'm interested. Not sure about the machine time happening any time in the near future but what's one more project...
The boring work sounds like a job for a HBM frankly. Fortunately I've got that one covered. Probably be able to help out on that for others in Tasmania too.
Could be a good addition for my small toolroom mill.
