I did use the rivnuts to fix the panels to the frame, and then inserted a metric crapload of M8 bolts everywhere, along with a huge amount of M12 bolts, and M16 bolts for the top steel plate. The massive M12 rivnuts will be handy for also attaching hooks and stuff to hang tools from. The other pic is of the side, with the rivnut tool I got, as this model was the only one capable of doing the extra long M12 S/S rivnuts I could find, they were a back breaker to do though!

It's a more expensive tool, but the amount of torque it can apply is amazing, highly recommend it.

Got it wrong, the company 10 minutes away is "Bolts and Industrial Supplies".
Visited and told no stock of countersunk nutserts.

Then tried Nepean Boltmaster, with the same result.

On the web page of Bolt and Nut Australia they list Qty: 100 at $26 delivered (Qty:1 is $5).
    M5 aluminium countersunk 0.8 - 2.5 mm grip.
They have a help line and a pick-up address in QLD.
    Payment made with PayPal.

Could be 9 days standard mail.
Will report when I have inserted some.

    Keep well,
    John.

Fantastic response, I think we all love to tinker with fixings.

I was looking at Rivnuts as they seemed a good general-purpose tool to have in the shop.

    DaveJ,
Yes, I dream about 3 mm backplates in electrical boxes, but such boxes are just too expensive now.
I also am reusing the original control box supplied with the mill, at 2.2 mm it is Ok.
We should compare our boxes at some time.
The friction drilling is really interesting, I will research this further.

    DH,
I will contact you to discuss a possible loan of the tool to get some experience.

    Keep well all,
    John.
    Hi John
I just finished tack welding my control board together today, all 1.5mm sheet.
The pipe is 40nb 3.2mm thick from memory to take the 5x DRO cables and wiring to the 2x VFDs.
It has locks on the pipe just like a quill lock, 2x on the main post and 1x on the control board.

The ingenuity of some people is amazing! Must remember to try that on my mill one day!

Don't think I'd want to do that on my drill press though! ;-)

    Comrades,

If you go to the tray of the Utube -bottom screen RH side.

    You can then :

    Click on the gear symbol

    Click Subtitles/CC/1

Scroll down list to English and Click

You get a translation which is mostly English. On the previous mill video, the translation for spark plug is not spark plug but a car candle.

How did you go on this project?

I just recently got back into my panel and replaced my 1.6mm mounting plate with a piece of 3mm sheet I cut to solve all the issues, it would be cheaper and neater than nutserts etc in the end.

My lathe factory backing plate is 3mm thick painted orange with M4 Phillips head used everywhere, so I just went that way.

The 1.6mm will be cut up for other projects as it no use in a electrical enclosure for a backing plate as it was flimsy as well.
