50NB galvanised steel pole joints
Hi all,
I have a conundrum which I will try to explain to the best of my ability.
I have a project I am working on for my son, it is an old ‘little tikes’ play ground where the metal framework rusted through so I had to rip it all out and I am now about to rebuild it with a custom metal frame.
The main issue I face is this; the way the playground is setup, I will need to join two 50 NB steel poles together. This sounds well and good as I could simply weld them, however the joint will be encased in the plastic mould of the equipment so there will be no access to the joint. The original framework was done by a custom metal joint inserted into each end of the joining poles and clamped into place, on each opposite end of the joint was a male and female screw joint.
Does any one know if there is another way I could go about this? Other wise how I can find this kind of joint insert for me to replicate as I don’t even know what it would be called.
I thought about an expander joint, however that will still require access to the joint to join it and tighten the hex screw, so this may not be an option either.

First off, welcome to a Top Forum.
Secondly if we had a pic of what you're trying to replace, it would make life easier. I think I understand what you are trying to achieve, but I can't find anything on Google that are plastic covered. What you're requiring is something like these, Downee.jpg but in a plastic covering, so that the bolt threads etc. are covered.

Hi All,
Thank you for the speedy reply, here is a photo of the play ground
if you can see the red walking platforms, they have a round lip which is designed to sit on top of an o ring welded onto the pole to support the weight of the structure, hence why I can only set up the foundation pole up to the red platform, then in need to put the plastic side rails together and feed the top pole from the top to attach to the foundation pole to hold everything together.
I will need to get some more photos of the poles and undersides of the platform to explains better. I will see if I can get these photos today. Thanks again for your help l.
