Default Source for 40 position multifix style QCTP

I have been saving for a QCTP for my Emco super 11 and had decided to purchase a set from create tool but it seems they are no longer trading (website still there but I cannot raise a response by email, website or phone). My next option is PeWe tools in Germany which seems to have a good reputation rather than unknown source/quality from ebay etc. Before I go any further I thought I should check in and see if anyone here had either had any luck with Create Tool in the past month or so or could share any experiences of other sellers of these systems?

I am looking at size A for my lather or could go the proprietary to PeWe tools AS size.

    Thanks for any help
    Ian

    Hi Ian,

Have you considered making your own ?

I made my Norman tool post some time ago, and I wish that I had done that years ago.

The link points to a WIP thread that I did on making mine !

    Thanks Baron

Yes I did consider it some time ago and then over time kind of talked myself out of it - I guess I just always thought I’d like a multifix type. Thank you for the prompt though I really should recoil at this option.

meanwhile if anyone has some advice on the multicultural type of QCTP I am all ears.

M&G sell them, good price as well. I have bought 3 different sizes off him
The A1 size would fit a small lathe but check it out, there is an A0 size as well. Don't stuff it up like I did
I have a PDF with the dimensions but don't know how to upload it here, only seems to be photo or video uploads.

Pewe are just the same Chinese sourced stuff painted gold. There is a genuine made in Germany multifix here:

    https://www.stahlhalter24.de/

They are as good as the genuine article. I also have some mag pro ones and they are also fine.

Default Source for 40 position multifix style QCTP

I contacted create tool about holders for my “original’ Multifix A. They were very particular about fitment and requested photos of my tool post which I duly sent. They said they couldn’t be sure about fitment, but offered to send me one postage free to be returned if unusable. I received it promptly. It’s almost indistinguishable from the original in terms of quality and is usable but a bit too tight so I didn’t purchase any more.

It seemed an excellent company to deal with.

    Hi Leigh

How long ago did you have contact with create? I cannot get any response from them.

November, 2019 - so a while ago. Hopefully they are still around. Seemed a decent company.

I believe the founder of Create died about 18 months(?) ago.

Emmanuel Goldstein on PM had his PA contact Nina with some difficulty, they were intending to keep going I understood - and I think he even offered to get her to order them for anybody a while ago. PeWe had a fairly disappointed Canadian customer with their 40 position a little while back I know. I'd probably take the chance on the multiple other Chinese brands, rather than pay for the privilege of a German sourced Chinese version.

    Thanks Hunch

I made an order via the create website and submitted it but no reaction from them (last week) so I guess they are working through whatever they need to by the sounds of things. So unfortunately they are off the list.

The attractive part of PeWe is that the owner has the same lathe as me (Emco super 11) and has an in between Aa and A size he calls the As that is perfect size for this lathe. He also answers questions and gives advice, something I have not found via any Chinese supplier. For instance if I go with A size I’d like 16mm holders not 20 and to do that you need someone you can talk to. My hesitation with As size is I would be locked into PeWe for future holders. I have read the negative experience and doesn’t sound like it was handled all that well but on the flip side there also seem many happy customers.

is there any Chinese supplier you know of who can actually speak with any kind of confidence on these holders? I’ve not yet been able to find one but will keep looking a little longer.

I think this is the route I am going to go down as well. I have sent them a message asking for confirmation on size system I am best to use and from there hope to order this week.

Thanks for indicating your experience has been fine.

They'll tell you anything to make the sale generally, although no doubt, language skill comes into it too. I did use these guys ages ago, they were reasonable quality on most basic items https://ht-tools.net/ Their price was more than the Create equivalent and I wouldn't be surprised sourced there - or from another 3rd party.

I take it there's a real estate problem on the compound? A is maybe a bit too big and he wasn't keen on 1/2" tooling with Aa, if prepared to go to the trouble of having made an intermediate size.

Thats why i like M&G. Have chatted to Felix several times and he is quite switched on. He has obtained things for me that he doesn't normally stock, seems very helpful and so far always good stuff.

Just an update on this in case anyone else has been thinking along the same lines. I had tried contacting Create tool and had no response so I tried PeWe tools. I emailed PeWe directly using the email address on their website and after a few days without response I thought I’d also try via their contact form on their website. That’s a few weeks now and I’ve not had a response. Meanwhile I received a message from Create saying they were sorry they missed my email and since they have been very responsive. Anyway I’ve ordered from Create and should have some holders and QCTP on the way soon. No doubt these COVID times would be playing havoc on lots of businesses and it seems plenty of people have enjoyed success with both suppliers.
