    Default Forward/ reverse switch

Hi, I need to replace the switch on my, old generic mill, "currently just on off" is there any advantage of making it forward/reverse other than tapping.

I have never needed reverse on my HM-45, but I don't use it that much. I have to make sure I select forward every time.
Can't think of a need for reverse.....

    Hi Bob, Guys,

I have reverse on my mill ! Its very handy for tapping, but if you are slitting something it good to be able to turn the saw over, reverse direction and slit from the other end/side.

But any other suggestions would be handy for using reverse !
    Best Regards:

China, the first thing you have to find out is if the motor can be made to reverse easily. If it's single phase it could be easy or nearly impossible. Three phase generally easier. You may need to take it to a motor rewinding shop to find out.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will probably go F/R as as if I haven't got it I can't use it, it is 3Ph I have mate who is a sparky he will sort out if it is reversible or not, he does all my wiring.

If it’s 3 phase it’s reversible. He just needs to wire it so the reverse position of the switch swaps any two of the phases.

About the only thing I use reverse for I think.

I use the reverse function on my HM52 when I'm power tapping.

Not what you asked but a cautionary tale about wiring a reversing switch.
A while ago the HM52's motor died and I replaced it with a good Italian motor.
How hard could it be to figure out how to connect the existing switch wiring to the new motor's terminals?
I ended up taking the new motor and the old switch to an electrician who understands such things.
