    Default 11/16 ACME thread

    Hi all.
I need a length of 11/16 x 8 tpi acme thread rod (approx 240mm long) and nut for a sash clamp I am restoring..cannot seem to find that size anywhere.
Alternatively If anyone interested in knocking these up for me, let me know
    Ken

Unless it's a very special clamp the cost of making an acme threaded rod is probably in the same ball park as buying a whole clamp.

Another possibility is to look for a broken clamp - the cast ion jaws sometimes break but the threaded rod is still OK.
I actually chucked out 3 broken sash clamps heads from cleaning out deceased FILs shed about 2 years back.
Post a picture of the clamp on the woodies forum and you might find someone near you has one rusting in the back of their shed.

    Hi kenny,
Do not take the following lines personally as they can be addressed to anyone who posts in the MetalWork forums requesting someone else to do practical work for them. Its not particularly addressed at you but the spate of 1st time posters who join wanting work done.

With my moderators hat on, can I just point out a few things that may make it much easier for members to want to help you?

No.1 With particular reference to your post. You might want to tell us how long the 11/16mACME thread is?

Firstly some of our forum history. For those who have began this sort of request over in the WoodWork Forums, we have been our own entity ,ie,MetalWork Forums since 2015 that a good while.

Even though, the Senior Admin is the same and the two forums are related, bear in mind the two forums are still different in some ways.

True! we have a few guys here that do things for others out of the goodness of the hearts but as with many similar things, it can be open to abuse.

For them much of time, a well meant ,genuine Thank You and offering re reimbursement for expenditure on postage and Materials( if not $ in lieu of time as spent as well) are just some basics anyone would expect.

If I were them and saw and a work request post that did not offer those things I certainly would not volunteer.

We have an active community dynamic here in the forum .
When we are dealing with someone who we know, we read or answer their posts there is usually a feeling of confidence with each other.

These members are those who are current and involved do things for each other and have things done for them.

Sometimes when someone we don't know bobs ups and it can be very apparent on their very first day 1 post there all they are here for is to get something machined, then the post conceivably could sit there a while.

What I am saying I suppose is people who come wanting a job done might have the courtesy to introduce themselves and offer a background- you know the drill- I make model steam trains - am rebuilding an old car- and then reassure the potential person who might do the task- that they offer to pay costs etc.

Members who have done or are doing work for someone through the forum, please have your say.I think it is important that those requesting services know that there should be a minimum expectation from them and we are not here as just a service.!

Ken, these seem to be very reasonably priced spare parts doners if one of them is the same - listed as being in Cooroy?

(I'm taking a guess based on you restoring one.)

I can't even see 11/16" listed on a US website, so it's a custom job for sure. How big is the nut?

Hi Guys.. its a very old Dawn sash clamp looking identical to a Saxon..both have the same diameter thread and tpi but the Saxon thread is shallower.
Must check a modern Dawn , from memory they quoted me $50 postage extra.

Might be time to learn some thread cutting..
