I did a search on Aliexpress, Banggood and Bay for "Desktop water jet cutter".
These terms do appear on the auto search items for the first AE and BG which means others have been searching for this on these vendor platforms.
When you click on these it directs you to diamond wheel stone cutters.
If enough people search for them - my guess is someone may start making budget version of them.

Yeh and when the budget versions emerge there will be a myriad of hacks and mods to make them work

You’re going to be in for over 10k to build your own Plasma cutting table. An 18”x12” water jet in the back corner of the garage is somewhat appealing…..

Looks cool, but with max thickness in steel of only 3-4mm and 20mm/min cutting speed at that rate, not particularly useful in my workshop.
If it could cut 6mm++ steel at ~100mm/min then its getting useful IMO - so I'd still be better off with a CNC plasma
But if you're into thin stuff or non-conductives, then it would be an absolute ripper. I'd be up for some new way wipers for the lathe for starters

I checked that out on the H&F website . Read through the materials and speeds . Wood is not listed as one . Plastics and soft metals are listed so it would be capable of cutting say 12.5 mm wood wouldn't it ? Is wood not listed because water and wood is thought not to be good on W/J due to movement of the wood ? Or because of the mess cutting wood ? Surely not ? Or maybe because other processes cut wood better they think ? like spindle with cutter or laser? If laser cuts wood at all ? I recon W/J with wood has a use but don' know if its used at all . I'm interested to know that .
Id also like to be able to do Brass sheet which I'm sure would be OK . 1 to 2mm thick sheet .

I’m pretty sure they were cutting form ply in the fabrication workshop at Civil Eng at USYD last time I lunched there. They’re in lockdown currently so James or Theo aren’t there to ask.
