    Default Champher tool

Watching some of Joe Pie" vidoes he uses a champher tool that does both outside and inside

Anyone know if these are available online and from where

Why should I have to be swapping tools out......

Got a picture? I have a carbide chamfer cutter that I use for inside and have ground up some HSS for outside use - could probably sort something out for you.

Nah no picture as you need to watch his vidoes...last one I recall he used it was " lathe live centre" he made.

I have one of these boring bars from General tools. The tip I have in it is for ACME threads (and the bolt in the front is a ring-in), but you could use one of these with a ground insert.

What it looks like he is using there is a carbide threading tool. The page is from Mcmaster, so you would have to cast around for a local equivalent.

If the GT boring bar idea looks a little flimsy, I could broach a 1/4" hole in a bit of square stock for you.

I frequently pause YouTube videos and take a screenshot if I see something I like.

I ground up a double-ended chamfering tool. Not as efficient as Joe's all-in-one tool, but works well. Make sure you grind plenty of relief into the end that does the internal chamfer.

YouTube restorer My Mechanics uses a square tool presented at 45 deg. for both inside and outside champhers. No repositioning required.
If you haven't watched any of his videos, they are worth a look.

For a lathe unless it's a small chamfer I find the tool chatters on larger ones and leaves a crap finish, so I use the compound with the lathe in reverse cutting on the backside.

Makes easy work and the compound is usually set around 45 degrees to keep out of the way of the tailstock.
