    Default Chaser grinding attachment

    SAM_0824.jpgSAM_0823.jpgHello from the Old goat again.
    Today a nice bloke dropped in and and handed over an unknown gadget. It tool a bit of nutting out but it is a jig for grinding coventry die head chasers. Once again I think as old as me and like new. My comment after realising what it is , it's missing the rake adjustment thingy's. later when cleaning the storage shyte off it I saw the base is labelled for different rakes. Move the inner bit sideways and it slots into a different position. My guess would be it is meant for a surface grinder.
    A much appreciated addition to the shed.
    Regards
    BC

    Hi BC,

    There won't be many of those jigs about ! They were not only very expensive but awkward to use. It was cheaper to buy a new set of dies.

    Default Chasers

    Hello again.
    It must be different for supply of chasers over there. They have always been expensive here and sometimes short in supply. From looking at the fixture all 4 chasers are mounted at the same time and the chamfer ground with a 1A1 wheel that is dressed to the correct angle. I would quote 8-10 mins. My tap grinding fixture finishes a 4 flute tap in similar time now that I have used it a bit.
    HSS tools are expensive in Aus. A 1/2" drill lists at $40.00 and Viking in USA lists the same at $7.50. This makes regrinding once again a good proposition.
    regards

    Hi BC, Guys,

    Tracy Tools here in the UK currently supplies packs of Coventry dies and also holders for single dies to use as chasers ! I gave away my large, 1" inch die head and only have a 1/2" inch one now and a few dies for it. I haven't used it for years.

    Some time ago I did use one of the dies held in the lathe tool holder to cut some 1/2" Whit studs for a guy to replace some on his traction engine.

    I have a fixture for (I believe) doing the same thing but is very different. For different sized heads perhaps?
    It also has positions for another operation??

    Never had the need to use it as yet but I do now have a set of die heads so its day may come.

    Default Chaser grinding

    Hi from BC.
    What you have https://www.threadtools.com/uploads/...r-grinding.pdf

    there is the Mk 2 version. It should be marked with a deg scale on one end. Have you got the edge height gauge for it? It is needed to check the height after grinding. Have a laugh at my ability to insert a link. The link leads to good info on grinding chasers.
    Regards
    BC

    Close, but that's not it.
    I had guessed it did both right and left hand sets as although it doesn't show in the pictures, one set of fixtures show many grinding "oops", the other set barely has a mark.
    Thanks for the PDF. Might take me awhile to get my head around how mine is different.
    Based off the pictures I had a closer look at mine.
    It appears to be German.
    Hard to make out, part words
    BRUST=chest(throat maybe?)
    LINKS=left
    ANSCHN=sniff(ok no idea on that one, rakes would be a nice match.)
    RECT =right
    RE HIS =also right

    And I assume a manufactures mark EFEM

    Will have another look later with some better gear.
