Laser cutting service with online ordering?
Is there anyone in Oz who does similar to this US firm?
sendcutsend.com
They can supply material and cut service from a drawing file.

I suspect all laser cutting places do that, it just might not be as automated (you send them an email with a file and wait for a human to respond)

I once spoke to a laser cutting rep, and the high quote I translated as, "bugger off, we don't want small jobs".
I thought if they optimised their activities for efficient and affordable service, like the US mob, there could be a market.

I just email the DXF files to my local cutting place and they cut them for me. I physically pick up the parts as its only 10mins down the road, but I'm sure they would courier the bits to me if required.
They will also work off a sketch or template but charge for the time it takes them to get it drawn up. I've never actually had to do it, but from memory when I inquired about it a few years ago they had a min fee of around $100 if they had to do the drawing etc.
If I send them the DXF files there is no minimum job fee.

just email out a RFQ to all the laser cutters within reasonable freight distance to you. I can guarantee one of they will want your job. at work i have found it pays to shop around and prices can vary a lot.

A properly done file thats "good to go" makes all the difference. Comaring senario A to B
A/ Had a firm that contacted me recently about doing a job run. Same deal, a proper file, done to scale. Within a few minutes I had a single unit cut on the table. Unit passed as a goer, so then runout the material. Copy and paste a table full of these and hit 'print'.
B/ Compare this to poorly conjured up (not to scale) plan on a post it note for a single, one off job. Sit there and stuff around deciphering and drawing up in a suitable manner to cut out. Send off drawing to customer to check as their figures dont seem to add up.
Experience both senarios in my line of work.
Had to get something cut out by a laser cutter a few years ago. The design fee was the biggest cost of the job. Now that I'm doing a similar thing myself its easier to understand their line of thinking. "Once we have this setup on file, any subsequent jobs will work out cheaper"
Not much more needs to be said.Frisky wife, happy life. Then I woke up. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".
